Moving a Moodle course to Workday Learning
Workday Learning takes courses as packaged content. We found no way in Workday’s documentation to import a Moodle course directly. It takes SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 and AICC packages, added as a lesson inside a course.
So a Moodle course reaches Workday by being converted to SCORM first. That is exactly what mbz2scorm does.
How the upload works
- Inside a course, not on its own. Workday says a SCORM package cannot be a stand-alone lesson; it goes into a lesson of a course, such as a digital course.
- A Learning Administrator uploads it. Setting up packaged content needs administrator permissions.
- Size. Workday takes zip uploads of up to 4 GB through its file picker, and larger through its media import.
- Test first. Workday recommends checking a package in SCORM Cloud before uploading. A converted course has already been checked against the SCORM 1.2 specification, and you will have played it in our preview.
Settings your Workday administrator controls
- Completion on exit. By default, Workday updates a lesson’s completion when the learner leaves it. A tenant setting, completion without exit, makes it update as soon as the course reports it.
- Interaction reporting is a tenant setting too. Ask your administrator whether it is on before you rely on Workday’s reports.
- Pop-ups. Learners need pop-up blockers off for Workday.
- The pass mark. Workday forum users report courses marked failed because a package’s manifest carried a pass mark that disagreed with the course. A converted course writes a pass mark only when one quiz decides the result, and uses that same number itself, so the two cannot disagree.
What a converted course sends Workday Learning
One package, one course. It reports one status for the whole course, one score out of 100 when the course has a quiz that counts, and where the learner stopped. It reports progress on every page change, and again when the learner closes it. A course with no quiz sends no score rather than a misleading zero.
Whatever route you take, test before you rely on it: upload one course, take it as a learner, and check that completion and the score arrive the way you expect.
