Moodle to Docebo
Moving a Moodle course to Docebo
Docebo takes courses as packages. We found no Moodle importer in Docebo’s help center; its migration route is a guided bulk import of SCORM, xAPI and AICC content, with Docebo’s team. So a Moodle course reaches Docebo by being converted to SCORM first.
In Docebo, the package is added to a course as training material.
How the upload works
- Add it as training material: open the course, then Training material, Add training material, SCORM, and upload the zip.
- Or once, for several courses: Docebo can hold a package centrally and use it in more than one course, and suggests updating it there.
- SCORM 1.2 is supported, alongside SCORM 2004 3rd edition, xAPI and AICC.
Docebo’s rules, and how a converted course meets them
- 1 GB per package. Docebo’s limit is 1,024 MB. A course carrying a lot of video can be larger; you see the package’s size before you download it.
- No special characters in names. Docebo refuses packages with them. A converted course’s file names, and the name it downloads under, use only plain letters, digits, dashes and dots.
- The manifest at the root of the zip. Upload the zip exactly as you downloaded it; do not unzip and re-zip it.
- HTTPS only. Docebo will not play content from
plain
http://addresses. A converted course switches oldhttp://video embeds tohttps://. - Completion is recorded on exit. Docebo counts progress when the learner leaves the course. A converted course reports as the learner goes, and again when they close it.
- Embedded video: Docebo advises opening packages with embedded video in a new window rather than inside the page.
- Updating later: a replacement package has to be the same SCORM version, and a changed structure can reset learner progress.
What a converted course sends Docebo
One package, one course. It reports one status for the whole course, one score out of 100 when the course has a quiz that counts, and where the learner stopped. It reports progress on every page change, and again when the learner closes it. A course with no quiz sends no score rather than a misleading zero.
Whatever route you take, test before you rely on it: upload one course, take it as a learner, and check that completion and the score arrive the way you expect.
